Hypermobility Physiotherapy & Assessment

Hypermobility can affect much more than how flexible you are. At Rae Physiotherapy & Pilates, our hypermobility assessments look at the whole picture — including joint mobility, strength, stability, proprioception, breathing, movement patterns, pain, fatigue and how different areas of the body may be interacting.

We work with people with generalized joint hypermobility, hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD), hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), and those who are exploring whether hypermobility may be contributing to their symptoms.

*We offer direct billing for most major providers

What to Expect From a Hypermobility Assessment

A hypermobility assessment at Rae is designed to look beyond flexibility alone. We take time to understand your history, the symptoms that are affecting you now, and how your whole body is moving and responding.

Your assessment may include discussion of your hypermobility and injury history, pain or instability patterns, fatigue, headaches, jaw or neck symptoms, ribcage and breathing mechanics, pelvic health, foot and ankle concerns, gastrointestinal or autonomic symptoms, and other factors that may be relevant to your overall presentation.

We also look at how your body moves. This may include posture and movement strategies, balance, proprioception, strength, joint control, breathing, functional movement and regional assessment of areas that are causing concern. Hypermobility screening such as the Beighton Score and 5PQ may form one part of the assessment, but it is never the whole picture.

From there, your physiotherapist will help you make sense of what they are seeing and develop an individualized plan. This may include education, movement retraining, strength and stability work, nervous system support, breathing strategies, proprioceptive input, pacing, joint support strategies and hands-on treatment where appropriate.
